Layered Approach to Information Security
Dave Everitt, who is Absolute Software’s General Manager for Europe, Middle East & Africa, recently guest posted for Infosecurity UK on the state of encryption and how a layered approach to information security is a more prudent approach.
As we’ve seen, the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) in the UK has begun issuing fines for data breaches. The Data Protection Act states that “appropriate technical and organisational measures shall be taken against unauthorised or unlawful processing of personal data and against accidental loss or destruction of, or damage to, personal data.” It’s clear that the ICO is now considering encryption a must-have for data protection… but that’s not enough:
“[Encryption] does not enable IT to track the data or manage the device it resides on, and encryption does not provide any details as to what type of information was stored on the missing or stolen device.”
Read on here to see what Dave has to say about a layered approach to information security.
